Breast Cancer Canada continues to raise awareness about the most commonly diagnosed cancer in the world. 87 percent of the respondents felt unprepared when they or a loved one received a breast cancer diagnosis, according to the survey. Many women are caught off guard by the diagnosis, as three-quarters say that they would like to learn more about it and how it might affect them.
Nearly six in ten men (57%) feel that they would not know where to look for help if a woman in their life was diagnosed with breast cancer. One-quarter of women (26%) are not worried about getting breast cancer because it is not common in their families.
The good news is that 74 percent of Canadians believe that healthcare professionals are capable of properly diagnosing, treating, and identifying cancer. Additionally, 68 percent of Canadians believe their doctors stay up-to-date on the latest developments in cancer treatment.
